Last week I delivered the welcome and keynote addresses for the Inaugural Distinguished Lecture on Religion and Public Life in Africa at Harvard University Center for African Studies.
The lectures which I endowed, will provide a platform for the Harvard University’s Center for African Studies to connect faith leaders with the Harvard community and beyond in conversations about the constantly shifting and contested boundary between the secular and the sacred, the public and the private.
As an African and a Christian, my religious belief has greatly impacted on both my business and public life. Therefore, I recognise the need for there to be conversations on these topics from the African perspective, and I trust that they will engender a better understanding of Africans, our religions, our challenges and hopefully stimulate thoughts on the way forward.

“This is a call to remind us that gender discrimination and inequality is an issue that is still rife worldwide. We must not forget it, brush it under the carpet or abandon the cause until all forms of gender imbalance in our societies are eliminated.” – Mrs Folorunso Alakija

I will be a guest speaker at the African Leadership Centre, King’s College London for the second edition of its African Leaders Global Engagement Series themed ‘Leading in Enterprise’ on the 29th of January 2019.
The African Leaders Global Engagement Series is hosted by the African Leadership Centre (ALC), King’s College London. Established in 2018, the series invites prominent African leaders and Leading Voices to King’s College London to interrogate the leadership dimension of the development-security nexus in Africa and other parts of the developing world.
African leaders participating in the series include current and former Heads of State as well as Leading Voices in business and society across the continent. On this exclusive platform, African leaders reflect on their personal experiences and share solutions to contemporary development and security challenges facing the continent with leadership students and scholars at ALC, King’s and beyond.
I look forward to joining the students and faculty members as we share thoughts on leadership principles and practices together.
The Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2019 took place between 18th-20th January 2019.
As a member of CWEIC (Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council) Advisory Board, I had the honour of discussing with other panel members how Indian and African businesses can work together to harness business opportunities and forge deeper relationships during the Africa Day session.
Members of the CWEIC delegation showcased the many opportunities for investment and partnership in Commonwealth markets to Indian and Global investors at the event and benefited from excellent networking opportunities through access to online and on-site B2B meetings and B2G meetings with Central and State Government officials.
Also, it was an honour meeting the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Vijay Rupani in India.
